How to pack a backpackThe closer the load is positioned over the body's centre of gravity the easier it is to carry. This fact affects the backpack shape and the carrying system. A narrow pack back and a back hugging system are therefore ideal. To fully benefit from this design your backpack must also be correctly packed and adjusted to fit. - Light items like fleeces should be packed in the bottom compartment and in parts of the backpack that are furthest away from the back.
- Heavy items should be packed as close to the back as possible and positioned between shoulder height and the middle of the back (always above the top of the waist belt).
- Small items can be packed in the top part of the backpack so that they are easily accessible.
How adjust backpack strapsPlace a reasonable load in the backpack. - Loosen all the straps
- Put the backpack on using the shoulder straps
- Position the hip belt and tighten. In doing so the middle of the hip belt should lie over the hip bones, not above because it could constrict the stomach.
- Tighten the shoulder straps, but not too much because the hip belt should carry over half of the load.
- Check the position of the shoulder straps. The shoulder strap mounting should be between your shoulder blades. The shoulder straps should smoothly follow the curve of your shoulders.
- If available and required, adjust the back length using Vari-Quick system. Undo the velcro closure and thread the velcro straps through the attachment loops. Tighten the velcro straps and fix the closure.
- If fitted, tighten the hip belt stabiliser straps and tension the shoulder stabiliser straps to pull the load closer to your back and your centre of gravity. Tighter adjustment for rugged terrain and looser adjustment for easy terrain or better ventilation.
- Finally, close the sternum straps to improve the fit of the shoulder straps.
